JBL Professional EON® Portable Loudspeakers

Representing the next generation of its groundbreaking and industry-standard EON® series portable loudspeakers, today JBL is introducing the EON500 series. The unveiling of the EON500 series self-powered and lightweight speakers immediately raises the bar in the category of molded powered loudspeakers in all aspects, from industrial design to sonic performance, integrated utility and portability.

"Since its introduction in 1995, the EON series has led the way in terms of versatility, performance and value, as evidenced by the sale of nearly one million EON speakers to date," said Simon Jones, Director of Marketing, Portable PA, JBL Professional. "Thanks to the acute attention to detail in the design engineering of EON, the highest level of quality is delivered to the end user. JBL has developed the new EON500 series loudspeakers with this same dedication to performance and reliability, while increasing portability, through an even lighter system and designed ergonomics. It has more performance, it's lighter and it's even easier to move around."

There are three models in the new EON product range. Each of the full-range EON500 series compact, lightweight models features an on-board mini-mixer with loop-thru or mix-out capability, allowing for greater control of the loudspeaker's output. The EON500 series loudspeakers also offer selectable EQ, multiple suspension points, soft-grip handle and a full screened backed grille for extra component protection.

The EON500 series loudspeakers feature a combination of JBL's patented engineered components, enabling a smaller enclosure and lighter weight than competitive models. When combined with the products' ease of handling, the EON500 series loudspeakers are ideal solutions for everyone from mobile DJs and musicians to systems integrators.

The unmatched reliability of the EON500 series loudspeakers is the result of JBL's integrated design of the woofer, amplifier, wave guide and thermal management of all components. Additionally, all electro-acoustic components have been specifically engineered for the EON system. Because the features and manufacturability of the system have also been developed in unison, the highly refined production process contributes to the reliability of the products.

The EON515 and EON510 are both 2-way powered speaker systems, offering mic and line level inputs, as well as selectable system EQ, giving users a "loudness" type control and the ability to roll off the low frequency for maximum performance with a subwoofer or when used as a floor monitor. Both models feature one XLR/ quarter-inch combo connector and additional quarter-inch inputs providing input flexibility and the ability to mix multiple sources. Each loudspeaker features one XLR output where the output signal is selectable, either the whole mix may be looped to another speaker (or sent to a mixing console), or simply the primary input for traditional "daisy-chaining."

The EON515 is a 15-inch 2-way loudspeaker system offering a total of 450/900 watts (continuous/burst) power. All power in the EON515 is derived from latest Crown® Class-D technology; it's highly efficient, compact and incredibly lightweight — less than 33 pounds (15 kilograms). The EON515 offers a 15-inch Differential Drive® woofer, a compact high-performance compression driver with a 1-inch exit and neodymium motor on a 100° x 60° wave guide.
The ultra-compact EON510 10-inch 2-way loudspeaker system offers a total of 280/560 watts (continuous/burst) power, weighing only 17 pounds (7.7 kilograms). The EON510 offers a 10-inch Differential Drive woofer, a compact high-performance compression driver with a 1-inch exit and neodymium motor on a 100- x 60-degree wave guide.

The EON518S subwoofer features a single 18-inch Differential Drive woofer in a vented enclosure, powered by a 500/1000 watts (continuous/burst) amplifier. It features a pole mount cup for sub/satellite applications, level control, dual inputs, a stereo crossover network, peak limiter and polarity reverse switch. It also has a speaker level input increasing connectivity, flexibility and system configuration options.

"Once described as 'the ultimate workhorse, utility loudspeaker,' the success of the EON line is based on its broad appeal, ranging from simple PA applications to professional sound reinforcement, making it extremely useful for DJs, musicians, major rental companies, schools, churches and institutions alike," Jones added.

"As with the existing EON lineup, utility will continue to drive the success of the new EON models, which truly represent the next generation in portable loudspeakers."

Building on the technology that spawned our highly acclaimed SWA1801, the Mackie SWA2801z features an 800-Watt FR (Fast Recovery) Series amplifier and dual high-precision 18" transducers mounted in a custom designed enclosure. The SWA2801z was intentionally over-engineered for both durability and performance by the world-renowned loudspeaker gurus at EAW (Eastern Acoustic Works). Onboard Mackie Active electronics ensure seamless integration of the amplifier and transducer at all times, creating a system that is highly efficient and versatile. This all adds up to a high-output system that’ll shake the dust from the rafters!

TRUE MACKIE ACTIVE DESIGN
Active doesn't just mean the SWA2801z has an amplifier bolted on its back — it means optimized electronics that provide complete control and maximum performance over all components. The onboard Active system controls the crossover filters, equalization, protection for the transducer and electronics, and provides real time vigilance over the entire system. There is simply no way that you can get this kind of full system functionality by strapping an amp on the back of a passive speaker box.

CROSSOVER BUILT RIGHT IN
Connecting and setting up the SWA2801z couldn’t be easier. It accepts a stereo or mono line-level signal via female XLR input jacks. Male XLR Thru jacks are provided for daisy-chaining the signal to additional SWA2801z cabinets. The built-in crossover routes the high frequency content to the high-pass output jacks, which can be used to feed the inputs of full-range Active speakers, such as those in the Mackie SAz Series, or an amplifier powering a pair of passive speakers. A Subwoofer Level control lets you adjust the balance between the subwoofer and the full-range speakers.

800 WATTS OF CHEST POUNDING POWER

The onboard amplifier, which produces 800-Watts continuous power, sits on a massive heatsink, eliminating the need for fans and dramatically extending life expectancy. A tremendous benefit of having the amplifier inside the subwoofer enclosure is that the SWA2801z functions as a complete system, optimizing acoustic, electronic, and mechanical designs to achieve the highest level of performance and value.

VERSATILE PLACEMENT
The SWA2801z subwoofer is designed to sit on the floor, either upright or on its side. (Feet are provided on the bottom and on one side.) A pole mount cup (socket) is provided on the top and on one side of the SWA2801z for mounting Active loudspeakers such as the Mackie SA1521z, SR1521z, SRM450 or SRM350. Amplified passive systems such as S200, C300z or S408 can also be deployed in this manner. (When pole-mounting loudspeakers on the SWA2801z, please use the Mackie SPM100 and only with recommended models.) Additionally, footholds are embedded in the cabinets top and side that allow for stacking of our larger Active speakers such as the SA1532z (see image above).

SOLID REAL WOOD CONSTRUCTION
For high-output loudspeakers, real wood just sounds better—and it looks better, too! The SWA2801z enclosure is made of select 15mm Baltic birch plywood and finished in black splatter paint. Carrying handles are integrated into each side for easy loading, and casters are attached to the rear for smooth transport.

If you love music, if you appreciate listening to music in all the detail if you enjoy sitting back and listening to your favourite track in the best possible way then you will love Bose speakers, headphones and stereo systems. However, on some occasions buyers who purchase the sets because of how clear the sound is, when they listen to speakers on display in the shop complain that when they buy the Bose speakers the quality is not the same. Many complain that it is difficult to reproduce the same sound quality at home than they do at the retailer. What music lovers look for from a set of Bose speakers is clear sound, excellent dispersion and low distortion. Whoever buys a Bose speaker they are looking for extremely accurate reproduction of sound. What usually happens is that people get disappointed when they buy the speakers because the lack the right amplifiers. In order to get the most out of your Bose speakers you need to make sure that your amplifier receiver is in the correct power range. It is not because of the speaker that sound quality is decreased but because there is a lack of compatibility between amplifier and speaker. Another factor to get the most out of your set of Bose speakers is positioning. Make sure you know exactly where the best place to place them. Buying a good quality speaker like a Bose speaker will not necessarily guarantee best sound quality results. Even though Bose speakers a probably the best in terms of quality out there on the market if you are considering buying a set you ought to read up on speaker position and amplifiers to guarantee the best possible results.

CROWN ELECTRONICS

Crown History: From its humble beginnings in 1947, Crown International has grown to become one of the world's largest and most respected manufacturers of power amplifiers and microphones for professional audio markets.

Crown’s history traces back to 1947 and an Elkhart, Indiana minister named Clarence C. Moore (1904-1979). Moore, a longtime radio enthusiast, had spent the early part of the ’40s in Quito, Ecuador working for HCJB, a non-profit Christian broadcasting and engineering group.

Following his return to the United States, he felt the desire to supply Christian broadcasters like HCJB with quality electronic products. As a result, Moore founded International Radio and Electronics Corporation (IREC) in 1947 and converted a former chicken coop into the budding manufacturer’s first production facility.

The company’s early reputation was built on a family of rugged and compact open-reel tape recorders designed to operate reliably when used by missionaries in remote, often-primitive regions of the world. After modifying and distributing several existing models (Magnecord, Recordio, Pentron and Crestwood) for the first couple of years, Moore obtained a patent in 1949 for a groundbreaking invention: the world’s first tape recorder with a built-in power amplifier (15 watts).

Eventually, Moore’s wife and co-founder, Ruby (deceased 2002), suggested that ‘International Radio and Electronics Corporation’ was too long a name for the company. Since IREC had by this point produced vacuum tube tape recorders branded ‘Royal’ and ‘Imperial’, in addition to the fact that the emblem on those products was a fancy crown, she felt that the company should simply be called Crown.

Her husband agreed, and, in the ’60s, the company’s name was changed to ‘Crown International, a division of International Radio and Electronics Corporation’. Finally, in 1975, the stockholders voted to change the name of the corporation to Crown International, Inc.

In the 1960s, the introduction of the DC300 high-powered, solid-state amplifier offering 150 watts per channel at eight ohms and AB+B circuitry moved Crown into a leadership position in worldwide power amplifier markets. Well over 30 years later, many DC300s are still being used in professional audio applications.

In the 1970s, Crown launched the PSA-2 Power Amplifier with a built-in computer to maximize performance of its output transistors. Product diversification began with the introduction of the still-popular line of Pressure Zone Microphones (PZM) and TEF audio analyzer.

With the implementation of Grounded Bridge circuitry in the ’80s, Crown offered an innovation providing lower distortion, less thermal stress, higher acoustic output, greater reliability, superior power density and audio quality, Grounded Bridge circuitry was integral to the engineering of the Macro-Tech and Micro-Tech amplifier lines.

The 1990s found Crown developing computer-controlled audio systems with the IQ System. In 1997, the company added another new milestone in audio technology with the introduction of the K2 amplifier featuring Balanced Current Amplifier circuitry offering innovative thermal and energy efficiencies.

Acquired by Harman International in March of 2000, Crown has continued to move forward, producing numerous
innovative designs, including The CTs Series amplifier line for the installed sound markets, Crown’s next-generation IQ System, now called IQ Network, and the I-Tech Series touring amplifiers, the world’s most advanced professional amplifier and representing the pinnacle of their over 30 years of amplifier leadership. These products and more embody the reliability and innovativeness that have long been the manufacturer’s hallmarks. And with each product backed up by a three-year, no-fault, fully transferable warranty, Crown today continues to delight its customers with products that consistently exceed both specifications and expectations, even on the most demanding tours and installations.

Crown International Senior VP of R&D Gerald Stanley, who originally joined the company in 1964 as a tape recorder line technician and amplifier design engineer, comments on Crown’s success over the years. “In an era of cookbook designs and buggy software, it would seem that the most basic lessons of history have been forgotten,” he says. “Crown’s recipe is simple: design, build and service each product as if you were the customer. This approach not only drives the product to excellence, it drives the people to be the best that they can be.”

McIntosh XRT2K Loudspeaker

McIntosh XRT2K Line Array design comes with a set of 110 SPEAKERS...

McIntosh engineers made the dream come true with a three way dual column design meticulously housing forty tweeters, sixty-four midrange and six woofers.

All elements are chosen for use with high power amplifiers up to 2,000 watts

Sennheiser PXC 350:

The PXC 350 is a circumaural high-end travel headphone set with NoiseGard™ Advance technology for active attenuation of ambient noise. The PXC 350 enables an unprecedented sound experience for people on the move, thanks to its adaptive baffle damping in combination with the patented Duofol diaphragms, which prevent unwanted partial oscillation and thus guarantee a highly natural, lifelike sound quality.NoiseGard™ is an active noise compensation system which Sennheiser originally developed for use by pilots, who have to rely on good sound quality and efficient protection against ambient noise even in high-noise environments. NoiseGard™ actively compensates the noise, based on the physics principle of sound and counter-sound, which works as follows: tiny microphones pick up the low-frequency ambient noise in the vicinity of the user’s ear. Based on that noise interference, the NoiseGard™ electronic module calculates the required counter-sound wave with 180° phase inversion. The unwanted noise and the phase-inversed wave meet directly at the user’s ear where they virtually cancel each other out. The result is an effective reduction in ambient noise. The music is transmitted in the same high quality, so that even quiet passages can be enjoyed in noisy environments. The PXC 350 features the NoiseGard™ Advance technology. This technology is a further development of the filter functions used in the original NoiseGard™ system, and enables even better active attenuation of ambient noise of up to 85%. It is of course also possible to use these headphones passively, i.e. without NoiseGard™ and without batteries.
The PXC 350 is foldable and is supplied complete with a practical transport case, 2 AAA batteries and audio adaptors (double mono and 6.3mm). Volume control integrated in the single-sided cable, which is detachable and replaceable

Soundproofing your Studio on a Budget

Building a soundproof studio doesn’t necessarily have to break the bank. There are many new and innovative products that can be used to obtain professional results. It is always best when building a studio to squeeze every STC (sound transmission class) point you can from the materials you are using. Some of the things that will help you towards that goal are staggered studs. Staggered studs is where the studs are offset so that there is less wallboard to structure contact. In other words, the drywall or soundboard would only come in contact with every other stud on a wall assembly. Staggered studs are a relatively cheap way to begin soundproofing your studio.
The next thing we want to look at is insulation for the wall (stud) cavities and the joist cavities for a ceiling. I always recommend a sound batt insulation called Roxul to be placed in wall cavities and up against the top of the ceiling cavities. Roxul is a rock wool insulation that absorbs sound and helps to damp the structure in either a wall or ceiling assembly. In a ceiling cavity you can fill the rest of the cavity with regular fiberglass insulation. That way the fiberglass insulation would be isolated in the cavity. Keep in mind that regular fiberglass insulation is a not a very good soundproofer.
Once we have the insulation installed in both the wall and ceiling cavities we come to a crossroads. For the best soundproofing you would want to float the walls and the ceiling using sound clips and metal furring channels. Sound clips are sound isolating devices that are used to suspend a ceiling or wall. Metal furring channels are a channel that fits into the sound clips and then become the interface between the drywall and the joist or the studs. The sound clips system is a suspension system that acts to isolate the new ceiling from the joist or stud structure.
If you can’t do a floated wall or ceiling, don’t despair there are other barrier and damping materials that can be used to soundproof the walls and ceiling of you studio.Mass loaded vinyl is a product that is widely used as a soundproofing agent throughout the United States and Canada.
Mass loaded vinyl, or MLV as we like to call it, is a high grade vinyl material that is impregnated with barium salts and silica to give it the same properties as lead sheeting, but without the hazards associated with lead. MLV can be stapled directly to the open studs of a wall assembly or to the joist structure of a ceiling assembly. The MLV would be stapled or nailed to the structure using an industrial stapler or a nail gun that shoots the roofing nails with the plastic heads. A plastic cap stapler is actually the best stapler for this application. Once the MLV has been stapled up to the stud or joist structure, you would liberally caulk all seams as well as the perimeter with an acoustical caulk. Generally any reputable soundproofing company that sells MLV will also have acoustical caulk available. After you have installed the MLV and have sealed it properly, you next step is to drywall over top of it with a layer of 5/8” drywall. It is also advisable to caulk the seams of the drywall to make sure you have a good sealed wall or ceiling assembly. A well-soundproofed wall using the MLV can be up around a 45 to 50 STC, which is pretty good considering what an untreated wall assembly would be. You also have the option of using the sound clips and furring channels in conjunction with the MLV to give you even greater soundproofing.
There are other soundproofing agents such as Green Glue and Closed cell foams that can help in your effort to soundproof your studio, but we will discuss them later in other articles. We will also discuss studio doors and windows in subsequent articles. The Experts at www.soundproofingamerica.com can help you obtain these great soundproofing products and they can also help you with the acoustical treatments you will need once your studio is completely soundproofed. I hope this article has been informative and gives you the knowledge that you can indeed build and soundproof you home or commercial studio effectively and economically. This is Dr. Bob…Out!!

Soundproof Doors

I wanted to write this article to educate people about soundproof acoustical doors. There are basically four companies in The United States who specialize in soundproof door assemblies. I will not mention them by name, but suffice it to say that soundproof doors are produced in limited quantities and therefore prices for these doors can be astronomical. As a general rule, a professional quality soundproof door of any size will have a minimum price of $3800 - $4000. This would be a bottom line door with perhaps a 40 to 42 STC rating. STC means (Sound Transmission Class). If you are looking at a soundproof door that is in the 50 STC range and greater, you can pretty much double the price you’ll pay for your door.
Now before you panic or throw your hands up and surrender, there are now companies that are manufacturing soundproof doors that are already pre hung and ready to install into your rough opening. They are using much more state of the art materials and these doors look much less industrial then the doors currently available.
These soundproof doors will match any decor and have and STC rating of up to 56 STC.These studio grade doors come in at about $2400 for the oak version, but for a little more you can get the door made in any species of wood from cherry to teak. This new generation of soundproof door is less heavy than the traditional soundproof acoustical door and as stated above come in the more traditional wood style as opposed to the metal industrial looking doors.
These doors are not just for recording studio doors; they are used in home theaters, Testing facilities, conference rooms, medical facilities, doctors offices, industrial office spaces and by Law enforcement agencies for interrogation facilities. The uses for these doors are endless. They come pre hung with all of the necessary hardware to install the door immediately into your rough opening. The heavy duty handles and hinges come in both silver and brass.
These doors fill a void in the soundproof door market somewhere between realistic and ridiculous. The name of these fantastic doors is the Sound Vault™ Soundproof acoustical door and they are only available from Soundproofing America Inc. These doors are a cost effective alternative to the heavy metal industrial looking doors that are sold by some of the other soundproof door companies out there and the entry level pricing makes this door much more affordable to the general public.
Do your research and I am sure you’ll find that the Sound Vault™ soundproof acoustical door to be an exceptional value at just $2400. The lead-time for these windows is 30 days or less in most cases and there are pre-made windows in standard sizes ready for immediate delivery. For more information on these high quality soundproof doors, contact the professionals at Soundproofing America, Inc. Until next time, this is Dr. Bob…out!!

Soundproofing a floor on a budget

Floor soundproofing can get quite tricky especially if you are working from an existing finished wood or tile floor. It is always best to remove the existing finished floor and start from the sub floor, however, if your old finished floor is wood, then you can soundproof directly over top of it..
The most common issue with a floor is the transmission of impact noise (footfall) to the people below. There are methods for treating this problem from the ceiling below, but we will discuss them at another time. For now we will discuss soundproofing the floor above in a condo or apartment application.
There are many expensive soundproof floor under lays on the market today and most consist of a dense recycled rubber material. As a rule these flooring under lays are quite effective for stopping both airborne noise as well as giving you excellent impact protection, however due to their density and their shear weight these products are often expensive to purchase and expensive to ship.
The reason is that they come in tile form due to their rigidity. Thus they are palletized and shipped out via common carrier trucks. Depending on the number of sq feet you are covering, the shipping alone for these materials can be astronomical. There is a realistic and economical alternative to these expensive soundproof tiles. The alternative is also a recycled rubber product, but not so dense that it cannot be rolled into an easy to ship roll. The material I am referring to is a product called Impactless™.
Impactless™ is sold by the professionals at Soundproofing America, Inc. www.soundproofingamerica.com or www.yahoosoundproofing.com where you are able to purchase this product online.Impactless™ is an economical alternative to the more dense and costly rubber tiles and it will stop both the airborne and the impact noise from traveling down to the neighbor below. This rolled floor underlay is very economical at $1.50 per sq ft it is basically the same cost as the 1# mass loaded vinyl. The more dense tiles cost anywhere from $3-$5 per sq ft and as mentioned before the shipping can be astronomical.
There are a lot of soundproofing companies out there telling their customers that mass loaded vinyl (MLV) will work to soundproof a floor. If applied properly MLV can help with airborne noise, but it is just not effective at all for stopping impact noise which the concern of most people who soundproof their floors. The Impactless™ roll is also much cheaper to ship, generally $35 for a 108 sq ft roll as compared to $70 and up for mass loaded vinyl. Impactless™ is one of the best-kept secrets in the soundproofing business. When you are looking to soundproof an upper floor on a budget look no further than the American Impactless™ floor underlay. Until next time, this is Dr. Bob…out!!

DVD Players - Experience the Ultimate Enjoyment

A DVD player is a electronic gadget which plays DVD video and audio discs. It plays the discs with the help of reflected laser beam. Normally these players are also capable to play CD audio, video and even picture CD. In the year 1997 the first DVD player model was introduced in the market. Before the DVD players arrived into the market, the laser discs were very popular. But with several attractive features, DVD players have replaced them.
DVD players produces high quality audio and video output. This is so because of the digital format. It delivers twice the picture quality of VHS format. These devices are so advanced that that it can easily compete with home theatre. The new generation DVD players come with the capability to hold video, audio and even computer data.
There are several companies out there in the market which manufacture superior quality DVD players. The names are Sony, Philips, Videocon Panasonic, Bosch etc.The players do read a DVD disc in ISO – UDF version 1.2 format. It also can read and obey the DVD's regional lockout codes and display a warning if the player is not authorised to play the DVD discs. The players decode the MPEG-2 video stream with a maximum of 10 Mbit/s. It decodes sound in MP2, AC3 or PCM formats and produces output on stereo, optical or electric digital connector. The gadgets normally comes with a remote control. A remote with simple layout ad visibility labelled functions makes the navigation easy for the user.
Mostly the DVD players can be connected to a television set. In this case, if television set supports component video input then the required DVD player would be component video output. There are also some small portable players are available in the market which have an attached LCD screen. With the gradual demand of DVD players, the manufacturers are now coming with new and innovating brands of DVD Players. Tuning with the traditional rules of market the price has increased.
